Grand inauguration of DAV Cricket League in the campus of DAV College, Jalandhar, Rishikesh Upadhay unveiled the trophy.
The campus of DAV College hosted the inaugural function of DAV Cricket League. There will be a total of 15 matches in the men’s cricket league, which is being organized by the Student Advisory and Welfare council in collaboration with the Department of Physical Education and Sports.
The highlights of the ceremony included Chief Guest Rishikesh Upadhyaya, Manager Logistics & Operations, Indian Cricket Team (Men) along with Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Prof. Manish Khanna, Dean Student Welfare, Prof. Manu Sood, HOD Physical Education & Sports, Vice Principal Prof. Archna Oberoi Unveiled ‘The Gleaming Trophy’.
Rishikesh, who is also an alumnus of the college, presented generous gifts to his alma mater. The gifts included Virat Kohli’s personalized jersey, a cricket bat signed by the playing XI and a cricket ball signed by Indian captain Rohit Sharma and former captain Virat Kohli.
Being a sportsperson is an act of spirit, to win you must put all your heart and mind into the game.” Upadhyay asked to motivate the players. He also shared his experiences and encouraged the students to work hard towards their goals.
Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar in his address said that cricket in India is not just a game but a festival of incomparable enthusiasm among the people. India has a pool of unbeatable talent across all formats of cricket which gives India an edge over others. He emphasized that the cricket league in DAV is going to provide a platform to the students to showcase their talent and the college will further promote the talented players.
As the DAV Cricket League is all set to take off, Prof Manish Khanna, Dean Students Welfare announced prizes and gifts for the budding talented players.
Special Prize: Cricket bat signed by playing XI will be given to the best batsman, Cricket ball signed by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be given to the best bowler, Man of the series, best batsman, best bowler and best wicket keeper will be given IPL ticket. There are exciting prizes including first runner up trophy, second runner up trophy, IPL tickets and many more.
Dean Student Welfare Prof Manish Khanna informed that this league is first of its kind in the history of DAV College and will provide a platform to the young players to explore themselves. Student Council tirelessly working towards providing better learning opportunities India is dedicated to working from scratch and this initiative is a step in that direction.
Head of Department of Physical Education and Sports Prof. Manu Sood highlighted the importance of sports in college. He said that sports activities should be an essential part of the curriculum and academic structure of the institutions. This initiative of DAV will set an example for many and infuse new energy in young talents.
After the inauguration ceremony, Hrishikesh Upadhyay visited the college and relived old memories. He expressed happiness by calling it ‘Happy Home Coming’. He also met the captains of all the eight teams, enriching their knowledge with important tips about cricket and motivating them to give their best.
In the league, eight teams namely The Panthers, The Rockers, The Jaguars, The Hurricanes, The Bravos, The Rangers, The Royals and The Musketeers will compete in 12 matches in the first selection round. 4 teams will advance to the semi-finals and two teams will compete in the final for ‘The Gleeming Trophy’.
In the ceremony, Prof. Puneet Puri, Prof. Meenakshi Mohan, Prof. Ekjot Kaur, Prof. Shweta, Prof. Sahib and Prof. Rajwinder were also present.
