The Department of Zoology was started in 1970 with Dr. K. K. Duggal as its founder Head. Since then the department has been at the pinnacle of the institutes for producing Academicians Doctors and alike. The Post-graduation Programme was initiated in 2003 under the headship of Dr. P.D. Singal. The department today stands strong with highly qualified faculty and well equipped labs. The Department has won universal recognition and laurels in the field of educational research and this department is in fact synonymous with quality education and also a torch-bearer of the principles of Arya Samaj

  • The department boasts of the lately acquired equipments like stereotype binoculars, research microscopes, more than 100 student microscopes, Nikon camera mounted Getner research microscope with visual unit, microscope image processing system (MIPS), simple & cold microtomes(-40), automated stirrers, shakers, pipettes, water testing kits, shimatdzu electronic balances, C-24 (-20̊), multimedia and smart board enabled classrooms, along with some of the rare stuffed specimens, skeletons and slides.
  • Involvement of the students in the Research programmes.
  • Zoology Association organises various students oriented activities like extension lectures, seminars, conferences, quiz etc.
  • Active participation of the department in activities like the Science Fair.

  • DBT sponsored Workshop was organised on “Entomological Techniques” (DSWETECH), the expert penal consist of Dr. H. R. Pajini, Punjab University, Chandigarh, Dr. V K Walia, Punjab University, Chandigarh and Dr.Jagbir Singh, Panjabi University, Patiala, on September 14, 2012.
  • One day seminar was organised on “Environmental Issues” the expert penal consists Dr.Jagbir Singh, Panjabi University, Patiala and Dr.Gursatej Gandhi, GNDU, Amritsar on July 21, 2012.
  • Extension Lecture was organised on “Oral Health Care” the key speaker was Dr.AshishGoyal on September 2010.
  • Extension Lecture was organised on “Health Awareness” the key speaker was Dr. T P Singh, Distt. Epidemiologist, Jalandhar on August 2010.
  • International Seminar was organised on “Biomaterials”, the expert panel consists of Dr. JMF Ferreira & Dr. Ashutosh Goyal, University of Averio, Portugal on October 10, 2009.
  • UGC sponsored National Conference was organised on “Genetic Panorama” on September 27,   2009.
