The P.G. Department of Mathematics dedicated the DBT-sponsored Mathematics Gallery, Infinitum Mathématique to the academic community on the occasion of National Mathematics Day, 22 December 2025. The gallery was formally inaugurated by Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Principal, who unveiled the gallery plaque and performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The inaugural programme was graced by Vice Principal Dr. Kunwer Rajeev and Prof. Sonika Dania; Dr. Punit Puri, Overall DBT Coordinator; Prof. Ashok Kapoor, Registrar; Prof. Manish Khanna, Deputy Registrar; and Dr. S. K. Tuli, Former Head, Department of Mathematics, along with Heads of various Departments, faculty members and students.
To commemorate the birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan, Prof. Monish Arora and Prof. Sahil Nagpal (President, Bansilal Mathematical Society) specially curated “Ramanujan Walk”, highlighting his life and major contributions to mathematics.
The programme commenced with the DAV Gaan, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.
Welcoming the gathering, Dr. P. K. Sharma, Head, P.G. Department of Mathematics, shared that the concept of establishing a Mathematics Gallery was envisioned under the leadership of the Principal and realized through collective departmental effort. The gallery aims to promote experiential and outcome-based learning by transforming abstract mathematical concepts into visual and interactive representations.
The gallery houses eight college-level mathematical models, including the Möbius strip, generation of sine and cosine curves, surface of revolution, ellipse construction with varying eccentricity, Tower of Hanoi, and models demonstrating sections of a cone, offering students meaningful hands-on learning experiences.
In his address, Dr. Rajesh Kumar appreciated the initiative and described the gallery as a unique academic resource, noting that it is the only college-level Mathematics Gallery of its kind in the region .He emphasized that the gallery would serve as a valuable academic asset for generations to come.
Dr. Seema Sharma, In-charge of the Mathematics Gallery, coordinated the programme arrangements.
The stage was conducted by Prof. Ranjita Guglani, and the guided walkthrough of the working mathematical models was arranged by Prof. Jasmeen Kaur.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Ashu Bahl, Departmental DBT Coordinator, who expressed sincere gratitude to the Department of Biotechnology (GoI) for financial assistance and acknowledged the collective efforts of the faculty members that made the gallery a reality. She also acknowledged the presence of faculty members across various departments and expressed heartfelt gratitude for the same.
