The campus of DAV College Jalandhar came alive with the colours of patriotism on August 15th as the institution celebrated the 79th Independence Day of India with great enthusiasm and a sense of national pride. Faculty, students, alumni, and guests gathered in large numbers to pay tribute to the nation’s freedom fighters and to reaffirm their commitment to India’s progress.
Event started at sharp 9 am Chief Guest of the function Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar inspected NCC and NSS platoons. Sub Lieutenant Prof. Manoj Kumar escorted the chief guest. NCC Army, Air, Naval and NSS platoons were led by Vansh Sharma, Vivek Giri, Preeti and Bhavneet respectively.
The celebrations began with the hoisting of the National Flag by the Principal Dr Rajesh Kumar, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. The NCC cadets then took the field for a grand march past, displaying remarkable discipline, precision, and dedication. With heads held high and steps in perfect synchrony, the cadets saluted the Tricolour, inspiring a wave of pride among all present.
In his motivational address, Principal Dr Rajesh Kumar dwelt in depth on the various slogans in the pre and post independent India that shaped the Indian freedom struggle before 1947 and the rebuilding and restructuring of the nation after the independence . He reflected on the journey of the nation since 1947, acknowledging the resilience, courage, and determination of India’s people. He urged the students to channel their youthful energy towards constructive nation-building, innovation, and social harmony. “Freedom is not just a gift from our past—it is a responsibility for our future,” he said, inspiring the gathering to embrace values of integrity, inclusivity, and service to society.
A patriotic song was rendered by the NCC cadet Namarta. Her soulful performance, blending powerful lyrics with stirring melodies, struck an emotional chord with the audience, reminding everyone of the sacrifices made for India’s independence.
The formal proceedings concluded with a vote of thanks by Staff Secretary Dr Puneet Puri . He highlighted importance of independence. He urged everyone present to pledge to work hard to make our India strong, self-reliant and prosperous. He expressed deep appreciation to the organising committee, NCC officers, cultural teams, and supporting staff for their dedicated efforts in making the celebration meaningful and memorable. He also thanked the audience for their enthusiastic participation and for keeping the spirit of the day alive.
The event ended with the distribution of sweets, informal interactions among students and faculty, and the reaffirmation of DAV College Jalandhar’s commitment to nurturing responsible, compassionate, and forward-looking citizens who cherish the hard-earned freedom of the nation.
The event was hosted by Dr Balwindra Singh. His hosting perfectly captured the spirit of Independence Day.
CTO Prof Rahul Sekhri, CTO Dr Sunil Kumar and NSS Coordinator Dr Sahib Singh contributed greatly for the success of function by coordination with NCC cadets and NSS Volunteers.
