PSCST-sponsored Nature Camp of DAV College Jalandhar at Ropar Wetlands concluded successfully
The Department of Botany of DAV College, Jalandhar, organized a three-day Nature camp at Ropar Wetlands sponsored by the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Chandigarh, with the support of MoEFCC, GoI. The camp concluded successfully on March 22, 2025. During the morning session, Dr. Shivani Verma (Assistant Professor, Deptt. of Botany) gave a brief introduction to the activities and the workshop planned for the day.
Dr. Komal Arora (HOD, Botany & Eco-Club Coordinator) was the resource person of the workshop entitled ‘Community Analysis through Sampling’. She said that quadrat sampling is a classic tool for the study of biodiversity and is an important method by which plants, microbes or other organisms can be sampled in a community along with the other methods including Point Frame Apparatus, Point Centered Quarter, Transect and Loop methods. She interacted with the students and solved their queries.
After a delicious breakfast, participants were involved in the ‘Quiz Competition’. The quiz activity was planned to analyze the knowledge gained by participants during the camp. An awareness rally was conducted at the Ropar Headworks. The participants raised slogans to save water, reduce waste and protect the earth to aware the general public about need to restore environment. In addition, another activity ‘Bird Nest making’ using eco-friendly and waste materials was conducted. All students participated with great enthusiasm and reflected their creativity by making beautiful bird nests with the help of fallen twigs, dry leaves and dry inflorescences.
