DBT-Sponsored Interactive Session and Hands-On Workshop On Hydrogel-Based Nanomaterials For Biomedical Applications

DAV College Jalandhar Hosts DBT-Sponsored Interactive Session and Hands-On Workshop On Hydrogel-Based Nanomaterials For Biomedical Applications
The Department of Chemistry at DAV College Jalandhar recently organized a highly successful DBT-sponsored interactive session and hands-on workshop focusing on “Hydrogel-based Nanomaterials for Biomedical Applications” on March 21, 2025.
Prof. Sheetal Aggarwal, Head of the Department of Chemistry, introduced Dr. Sangita Roy, a renowned expert in nanomaterials, marking the event’s enthusiastic start.
The event, designed to foster innovation and practical understanding in the burgeoning field of biomaterials, drew enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members. The session featured Dr. Sangita Roy, a distinguished Scientist-E and Associate Professor from the Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST), Mohali, as the resource person. Dr. Roy’s presentation covered the fundamental principles of nanochemistry, characterization, and their diverse applications.
Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar motivated the students and encouraged the department’s efforts in organizing such informative and skill-enhancing workshops. He emphasized the importance of practical exposure in scientific education and lauded the department’s initiative in bringing cutting-edge research to the students.
In this workshop, Dr. Sangita and her team-comprising Sweta Mohanty, Ranit Bhandary, and Chetna-demonstrated the synthesis of gold nanoparticles through a chemical reduction process, emphasizing their distinctive optical properties. Participants also learned the formation of peptide-based hydrogels by utilizing self-assembly techniques, which result in highly stable and biocompatible structures.
Prof. Tnu Mahajan, DBT Department Coordinator, expressed her gratitude to Dr. Sangita Roy for her insightful presentation and engaging hands-on session. She also acknowledged the efforts of the organizing committee – Dr. Pooja, Dr. Shilpa, Dr. Aman, Dr. Sonika, Dr. Manpreet, and Dr. Isha.
