17th National Youth Parliament (Group Level) Organized
DAV College under the aegis of Department of Political Science organized the 17th National Youth Parliament at the Group Level. It was sponsored by Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India under the Scheme of National Youth Parliament Competition in Universities/Colleges throughout the country, Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar, while highlighting the importance of Youth parliament said the aim is to strengthen the roots of democracy, inculcate healthy habits of discipline, tolerance of the views of others and to enable the student community to understand the working of our Parliamentary institutions. He said that “DAV College Jalandhar is the only College in the Country to have won this Youth Parliament Trophy three times while bagging the first runners up place thrice.”
The co-ordinator of the programme Dr. Dinesh Arora, said that 51 institutions all over the country are participating in the Youth Parliament Competition. The DAV College Jalandhar has been participating in the Group-II.
In this event 55 students participated and they successfully tried to create the look of real Parliament. The seating arrangement was made as per the provisions of the Parliament. On the right side of Speaker the Ruling Party, with PM on the extreme right and on the left side the opposition party with Deputy Speaker on the extreme left followed by Leader of Opposition. The roles of Speaker, Deputy Speaker, PM, Leader of Opposition, Secretary General etc were played by the students very successfully. The members of 17th National Youth Parliament wore the dresses of different states and presented a real look of National Parliament.
Items on Agenda: In this Youth Parliament various items were on the agenda like: Oath by newly elected members, Obituary Reference, Introduction of New Ministers to the house by the Prime Minister, Question Hour, Breach of Privilege, Papers to be laid by the Ministers, Zero Hour, Message from Upper Chamber reported by Secretary General, Welcome to the British Parliament Delegation and Vote of No Confidence.
Important Issues:
The issues of Startups, entrepreneurship, Road Accidents and increasing deaths due to accidents, Health and welfare, Safety of Railway Passengers installation of Rail Collision Avoidance System, Environmental Pollution, Price Rise, Tax on Popcorns, Increasing Unemployment, devaluation of Currency, China’s anti-India policies, the deportation of Indians by the US abruptly in military aircrafts wearing handcuffs, remained the hot issues of debate and discussion in the House.
During Zero Hour, Mr. Bakshpreet Singh raised the issue of environmental pollution in India especially in Delhi. He made an emotional and sentimental appeal to the government in this regard. The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, (Ms. Harleen Kaur) assures the house to convey the emotions of the member to the concerned Minister as he was not there in the house.
Vote of No-Confidence:
Ms Manroop Kaur Leader of Opposition moved the Vote of No-Confidence and criticized the government for its failure in all fronts of administration especially on economic front to check price rise, inflation, rising unemployment, suicide committed by the farmers and the poor economic policies of the government.
She criticized the government for its failure to bring a sense of security among the people. She presented data and tried to prove the failure of government to check the rising crime graph. She highlighted the issue of suicide committed by the farmers. Ms. Matangi also criticized the government for its failure on economic front. She said, “The Macro economic indicators confirm that the Indian economy has entered a disastrous phase of slowdown.” “The economy has gone to ‘rock and ruin’. 18% GST on Popcorn? Well this government always speaks about one Nation and One Election, but what is this … One income and multiple taxation?”
Speaking on the motion Ms. Anshika Sharma, the Minister of Finance, made every attempt to defend the government. She talked about the need to look economic issues from wider prospective. She argued the strong economic fundamentals of Indian Economy. She promised that soon the rising prices will come down. She highlighted Crypto currency, Digital Banks and other government initiatives to regulate the economy.
The External Affairs Minister, Mr. Akshit Gupta while defending his government said, For our Government, sabka saath, sab ka vikas aur sabka vishwas is not just a vision for India, It is a belief for the whole world.” He highlighted achievements of the government in foreign affairs.
He said, over the past four years, government has given a strong momentum to our engagement with the United States, Russia, Germany, France, Israel and other major global powers. “Since our Government came to power, more than 80,000 Indians stuck abroad due to various reasons have been rescued, including 20000 from Ukraine.”
Prime Minister Mr. Tushar Chadha, tried to defend the government and talked about India’s strong economic fundamentals. He tried to show the seriousness of the government in controlling price rise, unemployment etc. He also highlighted various features of New Education Policy- flourishes the Youth to become the Job Creators and not the Job Seekers.” Replying to opposition allegation that government has hidden agenda he said “Our agenda has been black and white, open and clear, and that agenda is “India first’” He seek the support of opposition in fulfilling our promises and build Viksit Bharat.
Voting on the Motion: In the end voice voting was held on the Vote of No- Confidence Motion and Motion was defeated due to lack of support. The ruling party celebrated it with thumping of dusk. Finally Speaker adjourned the house. The programme concluded with recitation of National Anthem.
Judges: The event was evaluated by a jury of three judges- Sh. Sushil Kumar Rinku, Former MP of Lok Sabha from Jalandhar Constituency, Dr. Shalini Sharma, Group Coordinator, from Markanda National College, Shahabad, Kurukshetra and Dr. Usha Kapoor, Former Principal, Guru Nanak Dev University College Jalandhar.
The jury appreciated the effort and encouraged the students to participate more in such programmes.

Brahm Dat Sharma, Dr. Rajan Sharma, Principal J C Joshi, Prof. Vipan Jhanji, Sarpanch Dr. Gurmej Thaper, Sh. Mohammad Imtiaz, Programme Executive AIR, were presented as Guests of Honour. The students, parents and staff members also attended the programme. Dr. S K Tuli, (Sr. Vice Principal), Dr. Kunwer Rajeev (Vice-Principal), Prof. Sonika Dhania (Registrar), Prof. Sunil Oberoi, Dr. Raj Kumar, Dr. S J Talwar, Dr. Navjeet Sharma,Dr. Manu Sood, Prof. Sukhdev Singh Randhawa, Dr. Komal Soni, Prof. Kuldeep Khullar, Prof. Pankaj Gupta and other staff members were present in the programme.
