Workshop on Tomato Products Organized by Department of Food Science and Technology, DAV College Jalandhar
The AFST society of Department of Food Science and Technology organized workshop on “Tomato Products” under the dynamic guidance of Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar. The event was organized under the DBT Star College Scheme for the students to give them hands on experience of preparation of tomato products like tomato juice, tomato puree, tomato sauce and tomato ketchup. Resource person Mr. Gaurav Uppal is an alumnus of Department and is presently working as Production, Parkash masale, Jalandhar was welcomed by Prof. Bhartendu Singla (HOD, FST), Prof. Anu Gupta (Coordinator DBT, Food Science and Technology), Prof. Pankaj Gupta (In charge AFST). Prof Pankaj Gupta gave detailed introduction of resource person and asked students to participate in workshop wholeheartedly.
Mr Gaurav Uppal motivated students to learn various aspects of Tomato processing. Students were given detailed practical demonstration about various nuisances of tomato products, various additives used to enhance flavor and texture, and shelf life extension of the tomato products. Students participated in workshop enthusiastically and learned techniques of tomato products manufacture. The workshop concluded with question- answer segment and interaction with students. The present workshop was very interesting, informative and very beneficial for students.
Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar commended the initiative taken by Department of Food Science and Technology for organizing the event and providing a platform for students to enhance their practical learning and exposing them to practical knowledge about tomato products.
