DAV College Chemistry Students Paint Holi Green with Natural Colors
The Chemistry Department of DAV College, Jalandhar, has embraced an eco-conscious Holi, crafting vibrant, natural colors from vegetable extracts and flower petals. Students showcased their innovative skills by extracting pigments from sources like beta vulgaris, tagetes, rosa rubiginosa, and spinacia oleracea, transforming them into safe and sustainable Holi powders with curcuma longa, cicer arietum, crocus sativus L and solum fullonum as their binding agent. This initiative, under the guidance of Prof. Tnu Mahajan and the support of the Head of the Department, Prof. Sheetal Aggarwal, highlights the college’s commitment to environmental awareness and encourages a shift towards traditional, chemical-free celebrations.
Following the successful creation of eco-friendly Holi colors, the students respectfully applied a tilak to Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar. This symbolic gesture, performed with naturally derived pigments, extended the joyous spirit of Holi while demonstrating the practical application of their scientific endeavor within the college community. Their vibrant creations promise a colorful and guilt-free Holi.
