Tree plantation is not just something that should be done; it is a necessity, the urgent need of the hour. Plants are important to protect our environment against air pollution and global warming. Considering the benefits of plants, Eco-Club and the Department of Botany of DAV College Jalandhar organized a plantation drive on March 11, 2025 at the botanical garden of DAV College, Jalandhar by the students of B.Sc. (Medical). The event was financially supported by PSCST, Chandigarh and CDC GNDU, Amritsar under the Environment Education Programme of MoEFCC, Gol. The main motto behind having the drive was to provide insights and the importance of plants. All the faculty members of the Botany department, non-teaching staff, and students of B.Sc. (Medical) took part in this campaign and planted saplings of Nerium, Citrus, and Carissa sp. In addition, a vermicomposting unit was also set up in the botanical garden which is a process that relies on earthworms to help convert organic material to a valuable soil amendment and source of plant nutrients. The technique is getting popularized for its multiple benefits. The pit was prepared using a bed of soil and sand (2-3’’) followed by alternate layers of organic substances i.e. hay and cow dung. The culture was turned twice before the introduction of vermiculture. Dr. Komal Arora (Eco Club coordinator & HoD, Botany) thanked principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar for supporting the efforts of faculty and students in the environment protection regime. Teaching faculty members of the Botany department – Dr. Lovleen, Dr. Sapana Sharma and Dr. Shivani Verma and non-teaching staff Mr. Sushil Kumar were also present during the drive.
