D.A.V. College, Jalandhar Celebrates Academic Achievements at the 87th Convocation.
D.A.V. College, Jalandhar, upheld its distinguished educational legacy by hosting the 87th Convocation on March 10, 2025. Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, IAS, Hon’ble Election Commisioner of India and proud D.A.V. alumnus, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, accompanied by Sh. Rajesh Kumar Sondhi, a renowned industrialist, as the Guest of Honour. Sh. Sibin C., IAS, Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, IAS, DC, Jalandhar, Ms.
Aparna MB, IAS, ADC (G), Jalandhar, Ms. Dhanpreet Kaur, IPS, Commisioner of Police, Jalandhar, Dr. Jaspal S. Sandhu, Former VC GNDU, Amritsar, Sh. Vikrant Varma, Assistant Commissioner, Jalandhar, and eminent members of the local administration were the distinguished guests. The day commenced with the Chief Guest, the Guest of Honour and other esteemed dignitaries inaugurating the newly renovated Hall of Fame, followed by a tree plantation ceremony. The convocation began with the grand Academic Procession, followed by the rendition of DAV Gaan and the ceremonial lighting of lamps. Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Senior Vice-principal Dr. S. K. Tuli, Vice-principal Prof. Kunwer Rajeev, Registrar Prof. Sonika Dania, Secretary of the Staff Council Dr. Dinesh Arora, Joint Staff Secretary, Dr. Punit Puri, and LAC Member Dr. Naveen Sood, accorded a warm welcome to the esteemed Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour by presenting them with the College insignia and a token of gratitude. On this momentous occasion, Sh. Rajesh Sondhi graciously made a generous donation to the college. LAC Chairperson Sh. Arvind Ghai, Mrs. Harleen Kaur Sandhu, the esteemed wife of Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, renowned philanthropist Sh. Sudhir Sharma, all the faculty members, along with the Deans and Heads of all departments, graced the occasion. Prof. Sharad Manocha served as the master of ceremonies.
In his welcome address, Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar introduced the revered Chief Guest, Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, as a man of exceptional calibre and impeccable integrity. Addressing the students, the Principal redefined success as the ability to create positive change in the world rather than the pursuit of wealth or titles. He encouraged students to embrace empathy, tolerance and environmental responsibility, and stressed that true success is built on character and contribution to society. He also congratulated the students for becoming part of DAV’s illustrious alumni, who have made remarkable contributions globally.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, expressed his honour in reading the convocation address and called it his privilege to be at his almamater D.A.V. College, Jalandhar, an institution of global repute. He lauded the college for its commitment to academic excellence and holistic development. Emphasising the importance of self -awareness, he urged students to make career choices based on their aspirations rather than succumbing to the herd mentality. Their decisions, he stated, should reflect their dreams, hopes and passions. Encouraging them to embark on a journey of self-discovery, he advised, “Discover yourself, know yourself, be yourself, and success will follow.” He also urged students to dedicate themselves whole- heartedly to their endeavours without being preoccupied with success or failure. “Give your 100 percent,” he advised, “for either you will succeed, or you will learn a valuable lesson.” He also stressed the significance of maintaining a positive attitude, identifying courage, humour and enthusiasm as the three essential traits for a fulfilling life.
Dr. Vijay Mahajan, an illustrious alumnus of the college, and C.M.D., Tagore Hospital, Jalandhar was awarded the prestigious Pride of D.A.V. Jalandhar for his noteworthy contributions to the field of medicine. Prof. Sonika Dania ceremoniously initiated the proceedings with the Principal’s approval. Dr. S. K. Tuli and Prof. Kunwer Rajeev presented the postgraduates and the graduates, respectively, for the award of degrees. Approximately 500 graduates and postgraduates from the batch of 2024 were awarded degrees. The convocation was enriched by a captivating cultural performance. As the ceremony drew to a close, Prof. Sonika Dania formally concluded the convocation with the Principal’s approval. Secretary of the Staff Council, Dr. Dinesh Arora, expressed gratitude to the entire faculty for their contribution to the success of the event. The convocation concluded with the rendition of the National Song Vande Mataram.
