Eco club of DAV Collegiate Sr. Sec. School organised an event Eco Art with Waste on January 29, 2025 under the inspiring guidance of esteemed Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Dr. Seema Sharma, Prof. Incharge Collegiate School and Dr Komal Arora , Eco Club Coordinator of the College. The initiative organised in collaboration with the Punjab State Council for Science & Technology and DAV College as Nodal Agency for DAV Schools in Punjab. Event was organised under Environment Education Programme of Ministry of Environment Forest & Climate Change, Government of India aimed to promote environmental awareness among the youth.
The event began with the recital of the D.A.V. Gaan, a solemn homage to the values and traditions upheld by the institution. This was followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, symbolizing the dispelling of ignorance and the ushering in of knowledge and wisdom. Following the lamp-lighting, Dr S.K. Tuli Vice Principal and Dr. Seema Sharma, Incharge Collegiate, presented a token of gratitude to the Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar, in the form of a planter, symbolizing growth. Then a green welcome was given to the Resource person of the day Prof. Puneet Puri, HoD of Zoology.
Dr. Seema Sharma, Prof. Incharge Collegiate School gave her valuable speech about this event.
Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar emphasized the importance of active participation in eco-friendly initiatives and urged students to take responsibility for the well-being of the planet. He also talked about 4R- Refuse, Reduce, Reuse & Recycle. He congratulated the organizer, including Dr. Seema Sharma, Prof. Incharge Collegiate School & Eco Club Coordinator of the School as well as all the faculty members, staff, and students for their dedication and efforts in making the event a resounding success.
The lecture delivered by Prof. Punit Puri, Head of Zoology Department provided a comprehensive knowledge regarding the major types and sources of solid waste generated in the country and the adverse effects of poor management of solid waste. He elaborated the latest technology which can be used for sustainable waste management and resource conservation. The seminar was thought provoking and interesting one.
Origami and Collage Making Competitions with waste material were organised in which many students participated with great enthusiasm. The competition was adjudicated by esteemed judge Dr. Komal Arora, HoD of Botany. Her invaluable insights and contributions was acknowledged and appreciated during the event.
The highlight of the closing ceremony was the recognition and awarding of prize winners who demonstrated exceptional talent and commitment to environmental conservation.
The winners were presented with trophies and certificates in acknowledgment of their achievements.

The event was hosted by Prof. Jasmine, Mathematics Department. Nearly 40 students attended the seminar. The function was made glorious by the gracious presence of Registrar Prof. Sonika, Dr. Sanjeev Dhawan, Prof. Bhartendu Singla, Dr Naveen Sood, Prof. Manish Khanna, Prof. Sakshi and other faculty members.
The day came to an end with glistening smiles sparkling on the faces of every participant at the college and renewing their enthusiasm. Atlast, the refreshment was served to students and teachers.
