PSCST sponsored Orientation Workshop Held at DAV College Jalandhar.
DAV College Jalandhar, organized an inspiring orientation workshop for Eco-Club coordinators from DAV schools across Punjab on January 21, 2025. The workshop was a part of the initiative of Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Chandigarh whereby DAV College Jalandhar was entrusted with the responsibility of establishing eco-clubs in 50 DAV schools and coordinating environment related activities under Environment Education Programme for the academic year 2024-25. The event observed active participation from 39 coordinators representing various DAV institutions. The workshop received financial support from the Punjab State Council for Science & Technology, the state nodal agency for the Environmental Education Programme under the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India.
The inaugural session began with a warm welcome address by Dr. Komal Arora (HoD, Botany and Eco-Club Coordinator, DAV College) and a programme overview presented by Dr. Lovleen (Event Coordinator). The chief guest, Dr. Renu Bhardwaj (Professor, GNDU, Amritsar), received a “green welcome” with the presentation of exquisite artwork made from waste materials, symbolizing the workshop’s sustainability theme.
In his address, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Principal of DAV College Jalandhar, shed light on the pressing environmental concerns and the alarming state of ecological degradation. Highlighting the role of educational institutions, he stressed that instilling environmental consciousness among young minds is the key to a sustainable future. He called upon educators and students alike to adopt eco-friendly practices, advocate for greener initiatives, and lead by example in promoting sustainability. The session concluded with the Life Pledge, during which all participants reaffirmed their commitment to environmental preservation.
The workshop featured insightful technical sessions by four eminent resource persons who addressed critical aspects of environmental protection. Dr. Renu Bhardwaj emphasized the importance of Environmental Education and Sustainability. Dr. Dinesh Arora, Dean, IQAC, DAV College, highlighted the need for Green Audits in Institutions. Dr. Komal Arora discussed the Ideation for Components of the Environmental Education Programme (EEP) and Dr. Lovleen introduced the Environmental Education Programme. The workshop concluded with the valedictory session, where certificates and planters were presented as tokens of appreciation to all participants. Dr. Lovleen extended the formal vote of thanks, while Dr. Komal Arora expressed heartfelt gratitude to Er. Pritpal Singh (Executive Director, PSCST), Dr. K.S. Bath (Joint Director, PSCST), and Dr. Mandakini Thakur (Project Scientist, PSCST) for their invaluable support and guidance. Dr. S.K. Tuli (HoD, Mathematics and Vice Principal), Dr. Kunwer Rajeev (HoD, Physics and Vice Principal), Mrs. Sonika Dania (HoD, English and Registrar), Dr. Renuka Malhotra (HoD, Biotechnology), Dr. Punit Puri (HoD, Zoology and Dear Alumni) and Dr. Minakshi Mohan (HoD, JMC) graced the occasion with their presence.
An exhibition showcasing creative products made from waste materials was also organized, inspiring participants to adopt innovative sustainability practices. The workshop served as a platform for educators to exchange ideas and equip themselves to lead impactful eco-conscious initiatives in their respective institutions. DAV College Jalandhar, reaffirmed its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
