DAV College Jalandhar organised Physics Unveiled and hosted Padma Shri Prof. H.C. Verma.
P.G.Department of Physics, DAV College Jalandhar organised an event “Physics Unveiled” facilitated by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India for the senior secondary students of the city on January 17, 2025.
Padma Shri Awardee Prof. H.C. Verma, emeritus Prof. at IIT Kanpur, a renowned and globally respected Indian Physicist was the Chief Guest while Mr. Manish Singh Rathore accompanied him.
Prof. Sharad Manocha, Master of the event welcomed the guests along with the audience. The event started with a floral welcome of Dr. Verma by Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar.
Dr. K. Rajeev, Head of Department, Physics briefly introduced the Chief Guest with the audience. Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar said that the visit marks a significant moment for the college as Dr. Verma is set to conduct an interactive and engaging session for the participating students.
In the first session, Mr. Manish Singh Rathore used the basic concepts of Kinematics to depict anomalies in Hollywood and Bollywood movies. He used interesting examples to explain moment of inertia. The session was highly interactive and students actively participated in it.
In the second session, Prof. H.C. Verma explained that nature and our surroundings continuously teach us Physics. He explained the concepts vaporisation, moment of couple, Simple Harmonic Motion, Oscillations, rotational dynamics, radiation etc using daily life experiences. He also encouraged the students to focus on understanding the concepts rather than cramming the concepts. He suggested to students that they should not be afraid of problems in JEE/NEET examinations as understanding of Physics will enable them to solve any problem. The session was highly captivating and participating students found themselves glued to it.
After this session participating students asked their queries to the Chief Guest in the session “Ask the Pro”. Out of the queries asked, five best were chosen by Dr. Verma and respective students were awarded with appreciation prizes. This was followed by felicitation of faculty members accompanying the participating students.
Around 450 students of senior secondary classes from various reputed schools like MGN Public School, Shree Parvati Jain Co-Edu Sr. Sec. School, Dayanand Model Sr. Sec. School Dayanand Nagar Jalandhar, Dayanand Model School, Model Town Jalandhar, GGSSS, Nehru Garden, Police DAV Public School, Jalandhar, St. Soldier College Danishmanda -GNDU Affiliated, DSSD Sr. Sec. School, Sodal Road, Sain Dass A. S. Sr. Sec. School, Bawa-Lalvani Public School, GSSS Kartarpur, GSSS of Eminence Ladowali Road, Cambridge International Foundation School, Shiv Jyoti Public School, Cambridge International School, Jalandhar CoEd participated in the event.
In the end, Dr. Satish Kumar presented a formal vote of thanks for all the contributors who made the event a success.
