Lohri Celebrations at DAV College, Jalandhar.
Punjabi Sahitya Sabha, DAV College, Jalandhar, celebrated the festival of Lohri with great fervour and enthusiasm in the college campus. The event highlighted the rich cultural heritage of Punjab by showcasing customs and traditions associated with this significant Punjabi festival.
The celebration commenced with vibrant cultural performances by the students which included various folk dances that captivated the audience and added to the festive spirit. Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar extended his Lohri greetings to all present. In his address, he expressed hope that the flames of the Lohri bonfire would burn away the superstitions as well as the grievances of the people and thus, pave the way for humanity, solidarity and communal harmony to flourish.
Prof. Sukhdev Randhawa, Head, P. G. Department of Punjabi talked about the significance of Lohri as a symbol of honour and bravery. He emphasised the saying _Poh Ridhi Maagh Khadhi_ and its relevance, while kheer made with sugarcane juice was distributed to the attendees as a mark of celebration.
The stage was skillfully conducted by Dr. Sahib Singh and Dr. Gurjeet Kaur. Dr. Sahib Singh enlightened the students about the historical and cultural importance of Lohri and provided insights into its origins and significance.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Manjit Singh, who expressed gratitude to Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Senior Vice Principal Dr. S.K. Tuli, Vice Principal Dr. Kunwar Rajiv, Registrar Prof. Sonika Dania, and faculty members, including Dr. Dinesh Arora, Dr. Puneet Puri, Dr. Seema Sharma, and the Punjabi Department faculty—Dr. Kanwaljit Singh, Dr. Rajan Sharma, Dr. Kirandeep Kaur, Prof. Sahil and Prof. Praveen. The participation and efforts of faculty and students from various departments were also duly recognised. The Lohri celebration at DAV College, Jalandhar was a resounding success. The event not only highlighted the cultural and historical importance of the festival but also fostered a spirit of unity, joy and cultural pride among all attendees.
