Nature Camp at Harike Wetland in Full Swing- Day 2
Second day of the Nature Camp at Harike Wetland organized by DAV College, Jalandhar started with great enthusiasm. The event is sponsored by Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Chandigarh under support of MoEF, GoI. The activities began with the Life pledge where all students along with the faculty members participated. Dr. Sapana Sharma introduced the resource person of the day Mr. Sunal Roamin, Vice President Samagra Unnayan Foundation, Mohali, Mr. Sunal is a famous wildlife photographer and environmentalist who worked with Uttaranchal government on various wildlife projects.
After breakfast, all participants had three workshops aligned for the day. Mr. Sunal Roamin conducted a practical demonstration session on pug mark identification and making of POP sovereign using them. Participants prepared the pug mark sovereign of Jackal, wild boar and wild cat. In second workshop, Mr. Sunal taught the basics of nature photography to the students and how to practically implicate those in the field. Students tried different specifications of handling mobile cameras and photography cameras and clicked pictures at wetland to capture biodiversity and landscape.
The final session involved the Bird Watching. Various bird species e.g. Egret, Heron, Coot, Pochard, Parakeet, Horned Owl, Common Kingfisher, Black Headed Gull, Hoopoe etc. were observed and captured by participants. Whole day of the camp was exhilarating and knowledgeable for students. They explored the diversity of wetland in depth. A rally was also conducted by staff and students for raising awareness about the importance of wetlands. It was followed by a plastic collection campaign from the sanctuary area. In the end, Dr. Komal Arora expressed gratitude to Mr. Sunal Roamin for delivering interaction sessions. The day ended with student feedback and heavy tea.
