Capacity Building Programme on “Google Scholar” by R & D Cell in Collaboration with PG Department of Computer Science, DAV College, Jalandhar.
On January 18, 2024, the Research and Development Cell, working jointly with the Postgraduate Department of Computer Science, held a Capacity Building Programme on “Google Scholar” in an effort to promote a culture of ongoing learning and research excellence. The purpose of the event was to equip academic members with the knowledge and abilities needed to improve their research endeavors and their ability to use Google Scholar efficiently.
Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. During his speech, he encouraged the faculty members to get more involved in research and stressed the value of building their research profiles for institutional and individual improvement.
The head of the PG Department of Computer Science Dr. Nischay Bahl, served as the event’s resource person. A detailed PowerPoint presentation outlining the capabilities and features of Google Scholar opened the program. Dr. Bahl clarified the differences between searching on “scholar.google.com” and “google.com,” highlighting the necessity of using a specific strategy to find academic books, papers, articles, and case studies.
One of the main highlights of the session was Dr. Bahl’s live demos of Google Scholar’s functionality. The conversation covered the subtleties of metrics and citations, giving attendees a thorough grasp of terms like h-index and i10-index through real-world examples. Participants received advice on how to store pertinent materials in personal libraries for future reference.
Participants learned how to filter results based on author, publisher, date, and publishing type during the session’s discussion of advanced search options. Dr. Bahl gave a live presentation on how to set up updates and alerts so that faculty members can be updated about new papers or articles that align with their areas of interest.
In the event, Dr. Bahl encouraged everyone to make their own profiles on Google Scholar. He emphasized that this effort would benefit the academic community as a whole as well as help them exhibit their research papers and generate more citations.
In her vote of thanks, Dr. Ashu Bahl thanked the Chief Guest, the resource person, and each and every guest present. He stressed that the faculty members’ talents would surely be improved by the knowledge they would get from the program, making them more effective in their research pursuits.
