DAV College Jalandhar under the auspices of the Alumni Association and the Institution’s Innovation Council organised an expert talk titled “My Life, My Story” featuring Mr. Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, on December 27, 2023 at 10:30 am in Gyan Udyan, Physics Seminar Hall. Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Sr. Vice Principal Prof. Salil Kumar Uppal, Vice Principal Archana Oberoi, Prof. Isha Sehgal, Dean Alumni, Dr. Dinesh Arora, Dean IQAC and Dr. Rajeev Puri, Convenor IIC extended a floral welcome to Mr. Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, the keynote speaker of the programme, an esteemed alumnus, renowned philanthropist and Global Ambassador of World Cancer Care.
In his address, worthy Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar, acknowledged the remarkable achievements and significant contributions of Mr. Dhaliwal. He lauded Mr. Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal for his pioneering efforts in social service, particularly in the realm of Cancer awareness across the globe. He introduced Mr. Dhaliwal as a modest individual possessing an unwavering spirit, driven by a clear mission and a visionary purpose. He also added Mr. Dhaliwal as one of the most distinguished Punjabis who has left an indelible mark through his selfless dedication to humanity.
Prof. Sharad Manocha from the Department of English conducted the proceedings and highlighted Mr. Dhaliwal’s four decades of dedicated service to the society. He admired Mr. Dhaliwal’s eloquence, progressive mind-set, and profound compassion, acknowledging his ability to instil hope, happiness, and optimism in countless families worldwide. Despite traversing the globe, Mr. Dhaliwal’s heart remains deeply rooted in Punjab, where 7400 villages bear testimony to his generosity and gratitude.
Mr. Dhaliwal shared his personal experiences recounting his life’s journey, challenges and triumphs. As an alumnus, he reminisced about the fond memories and experiences from his time at the alma mater where he learnt the moral values through his teachers which acted as a driving force and went a long way in making him empathetic towards the suffering individuals. Emphasizing the gravity of cancer disease, he highlighted the pivotal role of regular check-ups, diagnosis, immediate treatment and follow-up. He advocated for donations aimed at strengthening healthcare facilities, underlining their significance. Depicting the educators as key influencers in shaping character, Mr. Dhaliwal implored educators to take up the mantle of imparting cancer awareness to future generations. He stressed the necessity of organizing diverse seminars focusing on health-related issues, showcasing his dedication to promote a healthier and more informed society.
Prof. Isha Sehgal, Dean Alumni, proposed a formal vote of thanks where she focused on the fact that the success of any institution can be measured by the contribution the Alumni make to our lives. The programme concluded with National Anthem. All the Deans, Heads of the departments and faculty members were present on the occasion.
