Spelling Bee Competition

The PG Department of English 𝐃𝐀𝐕 𝐂𝐨π₯π₯𝐞𝐠𝐞 π‰πšπ₯𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐑𝐚𝐫 hosted a spectacular Spelling Bee Competition on 27th March 2023 in Chemistry Seminar Hall that left the audience spellbound. The event commenced with a melodious rendition of the DAV Anthem. The esteemed Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar graced the occasion as the chief guest.
During his address, Dr. Rajesh Kumar applauded the students for their enthusiasm and participation in the competition, emphasizing that each participant is a winner in their own right. He also spoke about the significance of mastering the English language and the art of spelling, which he said was crucial in today’s world. In his address, the Principal encouraged the English department to organize more such events in the future, enabling students to hone their language skills and showcase their talent.
The senior Vice Principal cum Head of Department Prof. Salil Kumar Uppal, in his speech, shed light on the origin of Spelling Bee competitions and the importance of mastering spellings in a world where auto-correction has become the norm. His insightful address was an eye-opener for the students and the audience.
The competition consisted of three rounds: Word Warrior, See Spell Score and Spellibrity Showdown; and attracted a large number of enthusiastic participants from various streams. During the competition, the event incharge Prof Gurjit Singh compered the event.
In the first round, 70 students participated, and the top 10 scorers were chosen to move on to the next round. Round two involved students being shown images of various household objects and asked to spell them correctly. The top four scorers from this round advanced to the final round, where they went head-to-head in a bid to determine the winner of the competition. The final round was a test of nerves and spelling skills as the students were asked to spell difficult words orally.
After a closely contested competition, Muskan of BBA-I was declared the winner. Ridhi Gupta Bcom-II and Arjun of Bcom-III were declared the first and second runners-up respectively. The top 10 participants were presented with certificates and the top three position holders were awarded shields and monetary rewards as a token of their remarkable achievement.
During the competition, Aashima of MA English, regaled the audience with Tongue Twisters & Word Games Round. The winners in this fun round were given gifts. Additionally, many students showcased their talents by reciting poems and songs.
At the end of the event, Prof Salil Kumar Uppal congratulated Prof. Gurjit Singh and his team for organizing and executing the event most successfully. Prof. Naresh Kumar, Prof. Suruchi Katla, Prof. Mamta Bajaj, Prof. Palak Sharma, and Prof. Shonima Dugg graced the occasion with their presence. The Spelling Bee Competition was an outstanding and Scintillating success. It provided an excellent platform for students to showcase their talent and hone their language skills.
