Vigyan Jyoti Program

‘Vigyan Jyoti Program’ for meritorious girls an initiative by Ministry of Science & Technology Government of India initiated at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya on 12 and 13 August 2023. This is the second time Ministry of Education Government of India appointed Prof.Punit Puri Head of Zoology Department for the subject of Biology.
Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar congratulated Prof. Punit Puri for being appointed as subject resource person for this session 2023-24 for two Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas Maseeta Distt Kapurthala and Goindwal Sahib, Distt Tarantaran.
This program aims to address the underrepresentation of women in different fields of Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in the country.
As a first step, the “Vigyan Jyoti Program” has been introduced wherein meritorious girl students are being encouraged to pursue higher education and career in STEM field. The Vigyan Jyoti envisaged handholding and interventions right from the school level. To encourage girls to pursue a career in underrepresented areas of STEM. Prof Punit Puri will be sharing valuable information in the field of Biology by Various activities such as science camps, special lectures/ classes, counselling of students and parents, interaction with role models, tinkering activities, visit to Knowledge Partners/ Research Labs/ Industries in the near future in order to motivate girls.
The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), an autonomous organization of MHRD, is the implementation partner of Vigyan Jyoti. NVS has a network of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) in more than 600 districts of India and at present, 250 JNVs are acting as ‘Vigyan Jyoti Knowledge Centres’ to cater for girls from JNVs, KVs, Govt. schools, army schools of small cities and rural areas for more diversity in STEM.
