At D.A.V. College’s girls’ hostel, the commencement of the new academic session (2023-2024) was marked by the joyful celebration of Hariyali Teej along with a Havan Yajna.
To mark the commencement of the new session and , a Havan Yajna was organised under the guidance of HoD, Sanskrit, Prof. Ritu Talwar. Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar graced the event as the chief guest.
In his speech Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar exhorted everyone to follow the path of Vedic Principles and rituals. He underscored the role of Vedic Principles and rituals in purifying the environment as well as cleansing our minds. He explained it has been scientifically proven that the households where Havan Yajna is performed daily tend to have fewer diseases and the number of microbes and viruses that contribute to illnesses diminishes rapidly in the vicinity due to the inherent purifying qualities of fire. He also praised the founder of Arya Samaj, Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati Ji, for granting women equal status and actively seeking education opportunities for them. Under the guidance of Swami Ji, numerous schools and colleges were established to grant women access to education. He noted that today, women’s success is a source of great joy and pride, as they have competed with men through their hard work and dedication. The Principal took a moment to honor and celebrate the achievements of 52 DAV students who excelled in the University exams, with only 3 being male students and the rest being female students, highlighting the significant shift in society’s perceptions. He emphasized the importance of festivals like Hariyali Teej which are primarily women-centric and celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout India. He encouraged the the girls not only to focus on their education but also to actively participate in cultural activities. The ceremony concluded with the chanting of Vedic mantras by the teachers and students, offering prayers for the prosperity of the college and everyone present. Pandit Buddhadev Shastri conducted the Havan Yajna as per Vedic rituals. Afterwards, students presented cultural programmes such as Giddha, folk songs and folk dances.
The event was attended by the senior Vice Principal Prof. Salil Kumar Uppal, Vice Principal Prof. Archana Oberoi, Registrar Prof. Kunwar Deepak, Prof. Sonika, Prof. Puneet Puri, Hostel Wardens Mrs. Renu Mahajan, Madam Romila and other faculty members as well as non-teaching staff and students.
