DAV College, Jalandhar celebrated Padam Shree Honored Librarian Prof. SR Ranganathan’s birthday as National Librarian’s Day

Dr. SR Ranganathan’s birthday was celebrated as National Librarian’s Day in Lajpat Rai Library of DAV College. Ranganathan, known as the father of library science, devoted his whole life to the library profession in India.
Throwing light on the entire life of Dr. SR Ranganathan, Head of the Library Prof. Naveen Saini expressed his views. As the motivator and guide of the program, Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar highlighted the importance of books in his message. A large number of students participated in this occasion. The students were very excited to see the wide variety of books on different subjects. They study academic texts, competitive exam books, all-time classics, bestsellers, self-help and fiction under one roof. The students also went through books from the vast collection of Punjabi language covering various subjects. The event was organized by the “Book Buddies Club” of the library.
Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar said that the library is a treasure house of knowledge. It can promote the reading habits of the people. Today, smart devices may have changed the use of books a bit, but still sitting in the library and studying creates a different positive energy, which gives us concentration and further development of our mind. It is a matter of great pleasure that the present-day librarians are playing an important role in various fields of educational activities of educational institutions. Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar appreciated and congratulated the college library on celebrating National Librarian’s Day.
On this occasion, Head of Library, Prof. Naveen Saini said that the role of library is most important in making every school an excellent abode of knowledge, he said that library is the sacred place of knowledge. He emphasized on the importance and need of inculcating reading habit among the students. Naveen Saini said that the library provides an excellent environment which is a pre-requisite for the pursuit of knowledge. He said that everyone should make continuous efforts to attract more students towards the library through natural, technical and latest methods.
Librarian Shweta explained to the students the importance of library in student life and talked about the importance of Librarian’s Day that Prof. SR Ranganathan is the founder of Library Science at the University of Delhi as well as the first Padma Shri awardee academic figure in this discipline. A postage stamp has also been issued in his honor by the Government of India. It is only with the blessings of Prof. Ranganathan that library science has earned its importance in India and the world.
