Women Empowerment and Grievance Redressal Cell in collaboration with IIC, DAV College Jalandhar celebrated International Women’s Day on 10th March 2023 in the college campus.
Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Vice- Principal Prof. Archana Oberoi, Registrar Prof. Kunwar Deepak, Prof. Sonika and members of the Women Cell welcomed the chief guest madam Vatsala Gupta, IPS. The event started with the recitation of ‘DAV GAAN’ and lighting of the lamp by the distinguished guests.
Dr. Deepali Handa, convener of the Women Empowerment and Grievance Redressal Cell also welcomed the chief guest and introduced the vision and the importance of a women oriented cell functioning in the college. Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar in his address emphasised on the important role of women and girls in the society and particularly the positions that still await women leaders such as Chief Justice of India, ISRO, RAW, CBI chiefs etc. He thanked the chief guest for providing a huge motivation to the girl students as her presence in official uniform is an inspiration for many.
Madam Vatsala Gupta, IPS in her motivational talk asked that the patriarchal society should understand today that women must not be treated and considered on their biological identity rather their other unmatched qualities. She said that women are better decision makers and more patient. She also shared her personal experiences and difficulties faced in the journey to become an IPS officer, how while pursuing in the field of research she had to shift for the preparation of civil services due to extreme ill health of her father in order to take care of her mother and sister and to become financially independent.
A rangoli competition on the theme ‘Women Empowerment’ was also organized on this occasion and the judgement of the same was done by Prof. Archana, Prof. Sonika and Prof. Anju. Tusharika and Muskan of M.A. Part I won the 1st prize, Saniksha of B.Com. III won the 2nd and Aditi and Nagma of B.Com III won the 3rd prize.
Two self-composed poems were also recited by Dr. Sharanjeet Kaur, Department of Physics and Ms. Tanya Bali,M.Sc. Zoology student. The IIC representative during the event was Prof. Namrata Kapoor,
the stage was conducted by Dr. Preety Aneja, Deptt. of Physics.
The members of the Women Empowerment and Grievance Redressal Cell of the college Dr. Deepali Handa, Dr. Kirandeep Kaur, Prof. Komal Soni, Dr. Preety, Dr. Varun Dev Vasishtha, Dr.Sapna Sharma, Dr. Kapila Mahajan, Prof. Hina Arora, Prof. Kuldeep Kullar and the senior faculty members were present.
The formal vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Varun Dev Vasishtha, Department of English and the programme concluded with the ‘RASHTRIYA GAAN’.
