The program started with DAV Gaan and lightning of lamp in the presence of worthy Principal, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Prof. Punit Puri, Dr. Taina Bhalla, Prof. Pooja Sharma, Dr. Deepak Wadhawan and other faculty members. In the beginning of the program Prof. Pooja Sharma welcomed all the dignitaries, faculty and students. She also gave the first-hand information regarding celebration of national science day. Prof. Punit Puri gave a brief description of college grants and asked students to build a scientific temper and work with passion to achieve success. He gave a floral welcome to the guest of honour Dr. Taina Bhalla and Principal. The Principal said that science has evolved now but our ancient descriptions also show that science was very well known in those times. He told that the foundation of science and technological advancements in modern science are based on inventions already given in our Vedas and at the time of Ramayana and Mahabhart. Their pursuit of knowledge was very much akin to those of modern scientist.
This mega event was whole day long and various contests were held in the open campus of our college. The various activities like expert talk, myth busters, quiz in basic science, health camp, demonstration of live aquarium fish and medicinal plants, display of poisonous & non-poisonous snakes, were organized by respective faculty members Prof Pooja Sharma, Dr. Rishi Kumar, Dr. Deepak Wadhawan, Dr. Kapila, Dr. Abhinay and Prof Gurmeet. , The program started using PowerPoint presentations on Myth Busters in science where Anshuma (M.Sc. Zoology) and Tania Sabharwal (B.Sc. Medical) presented various myths and crack the same with scientific explanation.
As per the national theme of science fair global wellbeing an expert lecture was organized where Dr. Taina Bhalla gave a wonderful lecture on โ€œGlobal Science for Global Wellbeingโ€ She emphasized the role of Balanced Diet and healthy lifestyle should be followed.
A quiz was organized to make students aware about the latest in science where Dr. Deepak Wadhawan was the quiz master and four teams participated where Piyush, Abhisheikh and Tanya came first, Shivansh, Lovleen and Inder came second Swati, Aarti, Karan came third.
Butterflies and insect collection was displayed for students which is the main part of attraction in NSD 2023. Hospitality In charge was Prof Pankaj Bagga where student refreshment was sponsored by ICICI bank Jalandhar. The aquarium fish event and plant with economic values was judged by Prof Pooja Sharma.
Various dignitaries attended the event Dr. SK Tuli, Prof. Sheetal Aggarwal, Dr.SK Khurana, Dr. Naveen Sood, Dr. Manav Aggarwal Prof Vishal Sharma, DR Rajeev Puri Dr. Seema Dr. Renuka, Prof SK Midda, PRO Dr. Vinod and Dr. Gagan Madaan.
An open health camp was organized for teachers as well as students. The main objective was to make people aware of the general health care services including Blood group, hemoglobin levels, and obesity status and taste perception.
The students participated with great zeal and enthusiasm in activities of demonstration of live aquarium fishes as well as medicinal plants and their economic importance.
The wide range of extra-curricular programs and activities were conducted to sensitize the students on various aspects of science including health and balanced diet, diversity, medicinal plants etc. Students from various undergraduate and post-graduate courses had participated enthusiastically in these events.
Mementos, Prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners and all the participants by the honorable Chief Guest. The organizers extended their heartfelt thanks to NCSTC, DST, GOI and APCOST for catalysing, supporting with financial assistance for conducting National Science Day celebrations at DAV College Jalandhar.
