National Science Day celebrated at DAV College Jalandhar.
India celebrates National Science Day on February 28 every year to commemorate the discovery of the ‘Raman Effect’ by Sir C. V. Raman, an Indian physicist, on 28th February 1928. For his discovery, Sir C.V. Raman was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930.
On February 28, 2023, Department of Botany, DAV College Jalandhar celebrated National Science Day under the aegis of Kashyap Biological Society. The theme of National Science Day 2023 was ‘Global Science for Global Wellbeing’.
Department organized two activities :
• Online Quiz: An online quiz based on significance of National Science Day as well as contribution by Indian scientists in various fields of sciences, was planned for faculty and students. Huge response across various educational institutes made the activity a learning experience for all.
• Book Distribution: In addition, an outreach activity was also conducted by the department. Books related to science have been distributed to students of Government Middle School, Roza Sefil Rehman, Jalandhar.
Dr. Rajesh Kumar (Principal, DAV College, Jalandhar) conveyed his blessings to students to achieve success in future. He also appreciated the efforts of the Department of Botany for planning book distribution activity to substantiate the core concept of Global Science for Global Wellbeing. Dr. Komal Arora (HOD, Botany) encouraged students to develop scientific temperament and pursue a career in science. She also inspired students to inculcate the habit of reading and exchanging books with their classmates for extracting maximum benefit out of this cause. Dr. Lovleen (Prof. In-charge, Kashyap Biological Society) and Dr. Sapana Sharma (Assistant Professor, Botany) interacted with students of 5th Standard and made them aware about the importance of scientific discoveries and their impact on human life. In the end, Dr. Lovleen thanked Ms. Namarta Chopra, (Head Teacher) and teaching staff of GMS, Roza Sefil Rehman, Jalandhar for sparing their valuable time and extending support to complete the activity successfully. DAV College, Jalandhar will continue the endeavour in future as an initiative under the theme Action@75 of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav which is driven by Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji’s clarion call of SABKA SAATH, SABKA VIKAS, SABKA VISHWAS, SABKA PRAYAS.
