Mobile Literacy for slum hutments people

The PG Department of Computer Science organized a Social Digital Literacy workshop on “Mobile Literacy for slum hutments people” on October 8th, 2022 under the umbrella of IT FORUM 2022-23. The guest of the event, Smt. Aruna Arora, General Secretary (Punjab Mahila Congress) and a Municipal Counselor, was welcomed and awarded with a token of appreciation by Dr. Nischay Bahl, Head of PG department of Computer Science.
The purpose of this workshop is to make poor and needy people techno-savvy with their cell phones and use its different features to make life more qualitative. This workshop delivered knowledge to advance the digital empowerment of slum hutments people. It provides practical recommendations to enable people’s learning, including:
• Supporting slum hutments community to learn on their own.
• Leveraging people’s social circles as a learning channel.
• Expanding learning through community resource persons, including mobile phone and network agents.
• Deepening our understanding of how people learn to use mobile internet.
 
Principal, Dr. Rajesh Kumar congratulated and appreciated the efforts of Computer Science Department for taking this noble initiative towards society. On this event, Dr. Nischay Bahl expressed his gratitude to the slum hutments community to join this worthwhile session. He gave tips to protect oneself from cyber-crime or fraud. Moreover, he also demonstrates how to use mobile apps for mobile recharge e-vaccination, gas booking, bill payments etc. Prof. Ritika Sobti, Event Coordinator apprised the audience of that is absolutely necessary to be aware of the correct usage of mobile phone in the present era in which most of our work and things are automated. She expressed his views on the significance of mobile phones that makes this world a global village.
 
During the course of the workshop, Prof. Leekha Jindal and Prof. Tanu discussed about the cyber-crimes which take place through mobile now a days in a simplified way and necessity to manage the mobile phones successfully.
The workshop concluded by addressing the queries of audience related to basic functionalities of mobile phones. After that, Prof. Ritika Sobti extended vote of thanks to the audience for joining this event. Some stationary items were distributed at the end so that the children can utilize them in a proper way.
