
Lord Raj Loomba, Member, House of Lords, UK and a distinguished Philanthropist visited D.A.V. College, Jalandhar. Lord Rajinder Paul Loomba, a distinguished philanthropist, member House of Lords, UK and an alumnus of DAV College, Jalandhar college visited his alma-mater, D.A.V. College, Jalandhar today on September 21, 2022. Lord Raj Loomba, CBE, is a most eminent personality who is working closely with great dignitaries and world leaders like PM Modi, Tony Blair, Cherie Blaire, UN General Secretary Kofi Annan and Ban Ki- Moon and many more renowned personalities. Lord Loomba along with his wife Mrs Veena Chaudhry, his daughter Mrs. Rita Sarkar and beloved grand-daughter Ms. Rashi Sarkar received a red carpet welcome in his honour by Sh. Arvind Ghai (Secretary, DAVCMC, New Delhi and Chairman, Local Management Committee), Sh. Ajay Goswami (Secretary, DAVCMC, New Delhi) and Principal Prof. Salil Kumar Uppal, staff members and students.
Lord Loomba was presented with a grand Guard of Honour by the NCC cadets of the college. The Loomba family was given a traditional welcome. They were escorted to the venue of the function under a canopy of phulkari with the accompaniment of traditional folk songs. The students of college also performed folk dance and traditional festive ceremonies. The proud alumnus and his august family enjoyed every bit of the festivities especially organised in their honour to the guests. Mrs Veena Loomba, Mrs. Reeta Sarkar and Ms. Raashi Sarkar most enthusiastically participated in the joyous occasion.
Lord Raj Loomba, CBE inaugurated the newly built state of the art English Language Lab in the college. He was very appreciative of the high tech facilities provided by the college to the students in the lab. Lord Loomba also delivered a highly motivating lecture to the students and exhorted the students to accord highest regard to their parents, especially their most esteemed mothers. Lord Loomba was honoured by Principal by presenting a silver salver, a planter and a copy of the Bhagvad Gita and the book of 100 glorious years Journey of DAV College Jalandhar.
On this occasion Principal Prof. Uppal in his welcome address said that the college is proud with its chest swollen to welcome a great philanthropist and alumnus of the calibre of Lord Loomba. He welcomed Lord Loomba on his homecoming to the alma mater after 62 years. He brought to the notice of Lord Loomba that this college has survived and progressed with the generous help of great alumni and philanthropists like him. The Principal attracted the attention of Lord Loomba to the poor condition of the College Auditorium that badly required large scale renovation. To this request of the Principal, Lord Raj Loomba in his address promised the principal all possible financial help in the matter. He requested the principal to send a detailed proposal of the work/ renovation needed to be done in auditorium. He also made an another generous offer to send other proposal listing whatever additional is needed in the English language lab inaugurated by him today. On hearing this, the entire administration staff and students lauded this magnanimous offer of Lord Raj Loomba with standing ovation and a huge round of thundering applause.
Lord Loomba shared his experiences and hardships faced in life in a very moving and emotional manner. He got too overwhelmed by the overflow of emotions while remembering and paying homage to his late mother Smt. Pushpa Wati Loomba. He fondly shared the immense contribution of his mother in his life who became a widow at a very young age of 37. The Loomba foundation run by Lord Loomba at present is supporting 20000 widows from different countries across the world. He also shared that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will shortly launch a programme of The Loomba Foundation to extend a helping hand to 5000 widows in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
