National Science Day celebrated

The National Science Day was celebrated on February 28, 2014 in the Department of Physics. This day is commemorated to honour the discovery of Raman Effect on February 28, 1928 by Prof. C V Raman for which he was awarded Noble prize in Physic in 1930. Dr. Harleen Dabia from Dr. B R Ambedkar NIT Jalandhar delivered an illuminative talk to the students of B.Sc and M.Sc on the topic ‘God’s particle at Large Hadron Collider’. She elaborated on the standard model of matter and the role of God’s particle (Higg’s boson) in imparting mass to the matter.

Earlier Dr. Hemant Kumar president welcomed the resource person and told that the National Science Day – 2014 is devoted to the encouragement for the development of scientific temper for in the development society.

Prof. T D Saini, Head of Physics Department, told that the discovery of Raman Effect was announced by Prof. C V Raman on March 16, 1928 during 15th Annual Session of Indian Science Congress Association.

Dr. B B Sharma blessed the students and emphasised that such kinds of celebrations and interactions provide awakening and awareness among the students and society.
