DAV College Jalandhar organized 62nd Annual Athletics meet and sports prize distribution on February 12, 2013 at College Sports Complex. In this meet tribute was offered to Late Sh. B.S Atwal who was H.O.D of Sports Department from 1969 to 1987. The sports meet was inaugurated by Sh. Sucha Ram Ladhar (I.A.S Divisional Commissioner, Jalandhar) with Principal Dr. B.B Sharma and Dr. Manu Sood, H.O.D Sports Department. The dignitary, Mukhwinder singh bhullar was Guest of honour, International Hockey star, Shrawanjit singh special guest of the day. Chief Guest for the prize distribution function was Shri. Desh Prem Azad.
The chief guest, Sh. D.P. Azad was nostalgic as he felt that it was a home coming for him. He was filled with proud of him being an alumni of DAV Jalandhar and wished success to the players of the college. The meet was glowing with the various stars from University and Inter college position holders. Athletics, Coaches and all the stars from sports department were honored by Sh. Desh Prem Azad, who himself has been tagged with the esteemed Dronacharya Award. The list of prominent amongst the prize holders constituted the Basket Ball captain Gur-Iqbal, Captain of cricket Ravinder Pal, Captain of Fencing team Shamsher Singh, Captain of Football team Harkawardeep, Captain of Lawn Tennis team Deepak Thappar, Captain of Water Sports Varinder Kumar. Along with these, Best Athlete ward was also crowned by Harman Deep, Body builder Nihal Singh, who was honored as Mr. DAV Jalandhar.
Dr. B.B. Sharma, Principal deemed, “I am overwhelmed by the untiring efforts from the DAV students. They always fetch prizes in what so ever they participate. I am proud of all the students and also am thankful to the faculty for nourishing the buds into flowers. Also, I am immensely touched by Dr. Manu Sood and Prof. Saurav Raj and the department of Physical education for theirefforts to promote games and sports in the college. With so much achieved I am sure, we have more skies to conquer as we will continue not only with our triumphs but also go and grow more with every event.”
