Competition Trio organized by Deptt. Of Botany

The one day inter-batch cultural extravaganza was organized by Department of Botany, DAV College, Jalandhar under the aegis of Kashyap Biological Society on Friday Feb 8, 2013. During this cultural festival, senior secondary and undergraduate medical students competed with one-another for top positions in Herbarium, Slogan writing and Quiz competitions.

The function commenced in the presence of Prof. P.K. Sharma, Vice-Principal, DAV College, Dr. Komal Arora, Head of Botany Department and members of teaching and non-teaching staff of Botany Department. Prof. Rosy Mittu extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries, faculty and students at the function. Addressing the students, vice-principal Prof. P.K. Sharma said, "Cultural activities form an integral part of leisure and recreation and participation by science students in such activities helps in enhancing the overall development of their personality and provides an apt opportunity to exhibit their special talents along with academic excellence."

Afterwards Quizmaster Rosy Mittu and Kanika Dua conducted the event testing each of the contestant's knowledge on a wide array of various aspects of Botanical and Environmental Sciences. In the quiz segment, five teams of two members each participated in five rounds of interesting question-answer session. At the end, participants from 10+2 & 10+1 won first and second prizes respectively. Simultaneously slogan writing competition was also held on the theme- “Earth without Flowers”. Off stage events held during the day included Herbarium Competition. Students of various undergraduate classes submitted herbarium files having well preserved dried angiosperms. Top position in slogan writing and herbarium competition were won by Karishma and Deepika Klair of BSc.I, respectively.

Head of Botany Department Dr. Komal Arora awarded various prizes and insignia to winners. At the end, she congratulated the winners and said that its delighting to acknowledge the win but the competition was more about promoting knowledge power among the students and we look forward to greater participation in future events. Finally Rosy Mittu acknowledged members of staff Rajwinder Kaur, Kanika Dua, Jasdeep Kaur and students for their support in making this event a success.
