HistoryThe Department of History at DAV College, Jalandhar is a flourishing department comprising five members under the leadership of Sh. Rakesh Kumar Sharma. It has been functioning for the last 88 years & almost 40 years ago it became Post Graduate Department. Since then it has established new standards of excellence. We have been lucky enough to have academically very strong heads of the department and faculty & the students of this department are holding big administrative parts in the Indian Govt. offices.

Achievements:

  1. Prof. Rakesh Sharma, Head of the PG Dept. of History registered as a Candidate for pursuing Ph.D. at GNDU ASR, 2005. The topic of research being “Imperial War and its impact on Punjab”.
  2. Prof. (Mrs.) Kiranjeet, registered as a candidate for pursuing Ph.D. at GNDU (ASR) in 2005. The Topic of research being ‘Udasis in Colonial period’.
  3. Prof. Rakesh Sharma remained the member of the Post Graduate Board of Studies at GNDU, Amritsar.
  4. Prof. (Mrs.) Kiranjeet is at present a member of Post-Graduate Board of Studies at GNDU, ASR.
  5. Prof. Vipan Kumar is at present a member of faculty of Arts & Social Sciences.
  6. Prof. Rakesh Sharma, delivered lecture at Doaba College, Jalandhar in October, 2005 on the topic “Uses of History in Contemporay Society”.
  7. Prof. (Mrs.) Kiranjeet attended the sessions of Punjab History Conference in the years 2005 & 2006 and presented papers during these sessions.
  8. Prof. (Mrs.) Kiranjeet attended National Level Conference at BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar & at S.D.College, Jalandhar.
  9. Prof. Manoj Kumar attended UGC Sponsored National Seminar on ‘Concerns & Prospects in Higher Education’ at DAV College for Women at Ferozepur Cantt. On March 11-12, 2005.
  10. Prof. Manoj Kumar attended State Level Seminar on “Economic Reforms: Their Impact on Indian Economy” on March 5, 2005 at DAV College, Malout.
  11. Prof. Manoj Kumar attended Punjab History Conference session at Punjab University, Patiala in March, 2006.
  12. Our students have been and at present also medal winners at University Level. This year also the Department of History was successful in getting four out of first 10 positions in the annual exam. Namely first, second, third & ninth, including the Gold medal.
  13. Many educational Trips have been conducted under the president ship of Prof. (Mrs.) Kiranjeet, Prof. Manoj Kumar, Prof.Vipan Kumar and the students have been given practical tips about History.
  14. Many extension lectures have been conducted under the History association headed by Prof.(Mrs.) Kiranjeet, Prof. Manoj Kumar, Prof.Vipan Kumar during the past years and students have been greatly benefited.
  15. Additional Courses namely B.A.(Hons.) and a Vocational Add on Course namely ‘ Travel & Tourism’ Diploma have been introduced in the Department having affiliation with GNDU, Amritsar.
  16. Approximately 15 students of the Department qualified UGC/NET exam & are placed in different educational institutions.

  • Attended Refresher Course in History at UGC Academic Staff College, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla from 27-11-2006 to 16-12-2006.
  • Attended Refresher Course in HUMAN RIGHTS (Interdisciplinary) at UGC A.S.College, GNDU Amritsar from 30-11-2000 to 20-12-2000.

  • Attended Workshop on 8th-9th January, 2007 on topic “Guru Nanak and his Message” at GNDU, Amritsar.
