10th National Youth Parliament

DAV College under the aegis of Department of Extra-Mural Activities organized the 10th National Youth Parliament. It was sponsored by Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India under the Scheme of National Youth Parliament Competition in Universities/Colleges throughout the country. The coordinator Dr. Dinesh Arora while highlighting the aim of the Youth Parliament said that its aim is to strengthen the roots of democracy, inculcate healthy habits of discipline, tolerance of the views of others and to enable the student community to understand the working of our Parliamentary institutions. In the 10th National Youth Parliament 19 Universities/Colleges are participating from all over India and DAV College is one of them.

In the event 70 students participated and they successfully tried to create the look of real Parliament. The seating arrangement was made as per the provisions of the Parliament. On the right side of Speaker the ruling party, with PM on the extreme right and on the left side the opposition party with Deputy Speaker on the extreme left followed by Leader of Opposition. The role of Speaker, Deputy Speaker, PM, Leader of Opposition, Secretary General etc was played by the students very successfully. The members of 10th National Youth Parliament wore the dresses of different states and presented a real look of National Parliament. The items like oath by new members, introduction to new ministers by PM, Breach of Privilege, Question Hour, Call Attention Motion etc were presented in the Youth Parliament.

 

Important Issues:

The issues of Price Rise, Corruption & mismanagement in the organization of Commonwealth Games remained the hot issues of debate and discussion in the house. Ms Amandeep Kaur took the issue of Price rise and called it the result of failure of government policies. She sought reply from the government and said ab to jago mahgai dan khai jay. While talking about about India’s strong economic fundamentals Mr. Kanwarpreet Singh as PM tried to show the seriousness of the government in controlling price rise.

Mr. Chaitanya Mahajan as Leader of Opposition took the issue of Corruption & mismanagement in the organization of Commonwealth Games. He factually and logically presented his point and demanded Joint Parliamentary Committee probe on the issue. Pulvi as Minister of Youth Affairs tried to satisfy the opposition but due to interruption by the opposition, Speaker has to adjourn the house.

Judges: The event was evaluated by a jury of three judges- Ms Gurkamal Kaur, Ex MLA, Dr. B. Moomin, a Group coordinator from Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Rajan Sharma, Head, Department of Political Science, Doaba College, Jalandhar. The jury appreciated the effort and encouraged the students to participate more in such programmes. Jury selected 7 students as best member of youth Parliament, these are Chandandeep Kaur, Amanpreet Kaur, Chaitanya Mahajan, Sarima Thakur, Kanwarpreet Singh, Pallvi Ahuja, Shikha Salaria. These students and Judges were honored by Principal Dr. Satish Kumar Sharma, Prof Kanwar Rajeev, Dean EMA, other members of EMA.
