National Workshop on Transport Phenomenonin Low Dimensional Systems

National Workshop

On
Transport Phenomenon in Low Dimensional Systems
&
First Principle Simulation of Condensed Matter Systems
(September 29 - October 5, 2016)

National Workshop on “Transport Phenomenon in Low Dimensional Systems & First Principle Simulation of Condensed Matter Systems” is being organized in Postgraduate Department of Physics, DAV College, Jalandhar from September 29 - October 5, 2016. The aim of workshop, on one hand, is to learn basic concepts of low dimensional quantum systems and to study transport properties of these systems. On the other hand, we wish to introduce First Principle Simulation of condensed matter physics. The quest for specifically designed materials with applications ranging from medicine to advanced electronics, asks for study of materials at smaller scales. Mathematical as well as computational, both these aspects of study of materials at low dimensions can contribute to design of new materials with desired properties. This workshop is targeted to teach these two methods (Mathematical & Simulation). Dr. Santunu Maiti from Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata and Dr. Ashok Kumar from Central University of Punjab, Bathinda will be the resource persons for this workshop. Participants will be given fully designed course in both parts in this workshop.

The participation is invited from postgraduate students, research scholars and teachers from educational and research institutions. The participation is limited to 30 participants only on first come first serve basis. Participants can register themselves by paying the registration through draft favoring “Principal DAV College Jalandhar” payable at Jalandhar along with registration form.

Last date for Registration : Extended upto 20th September 2016   (Hostel accommodation at concessional rates can be arranged if required).

Theme of the Seminar

As the educational spectrum of the country has witnessed a transformation with respect to the change in focus contextualizing higher education, the relevance of exploring, revising, upgrading and redesigning our methods of teaching, learning and evaluation is of paramount importance. As educators, it has become necessary to have a dialogue- raising questions, seeking answers, interpreting evidence, implementing changes and examining their effects – without which teaching, learning and evaluation remains an empty and intellectually unfulfilling mechanical process.dialogue- raising questions, seeking answers, interpreting evidence, implementing changes and examining their effects – without which teaching, learning and evaluation remains an empty and intellectually unfulfilling mechanical process.

In this context, the National Seminar on Teaching, Learning and Evaluation aims to bring under one roof academic administrators, faculty members and policy makers to share views and ideas about new possibilities of delivering education and conducting evaluation and is intended as a guideline to those interested in serving students of different backgrounds and abilities, through effective teaching – learning experiences. The educators by sharing the most successful, innovative and practical ideas and strategies will be assisting each other in becoming more effective in their positions. The seminar is an effort to produce a distinctive way of thinking about how teaching and evaluation in higher education influence the quality of student learning. Today’s students need to know not only the basic reading and arithmetic skills, but also skills that will allow them to face a world that is continually changing. Educators need to take an active role in greater integration of technology and teaching, improved way of increasing pace and extent of learning as well as making decisions about the purpose of assessment and the content that is being assessed. Hence, this seminar hopes to play a pivotal role in enabling the evolvement of new ideas through peer discussions and scholarly engagements and to disseminate these among the stakeholders.

Sponsored by
ICSSR North-Western Regional Centre, Chandigarh
on

Organised by
Post-Graduate Department of Political Science
DAV College, Jalandhar

Theme of Seminar
Good governance has become a perfect sound bite for the present age. It has become a buzzword in the vocabulary of political and administrative reforms. It is also used as synonymous to sound development management. It first emerged in the mid-1980s as governability with the emphasis on adherence to the rule of law. In 1989, the World Bank study “Sub-Saharan Africa-from Crisis to Sustainable Growth”, the term 'Governance' was first used to describe the need for institutional reforms and efficient public sector in Sub-Saharan countries. It defined governance as “the exercise of political power to manage a nation's affairs.”
Historically, the idea of Good Governance is as old as Indian civilization. In ancient India, the rulers were bound by dharma, popularly called 'Raj Dharma', which precisely meant for ensuring good governance to the people.
When during 1990s World Bank raised the issue of governance, this immediately became an issue of concern for India. The different five year plans give importance to this concept of Good Governance. A number of initiatives have already been taken for improving the quality of governance in India like RTI Act 2005, RTE and MGNREGA etc. However, despite achieving success on several counts, there are still many challenges for the governance system in our country.
Sub Themes
o Good Governance  in  Ancient Indian Society
o Minimum Government and Maximum Governance
o E-Governance  a key to Good Governance
o Right to Information Act and Good Governance in India
o Right to Education and Good Governance
o Social Security Schemes and Good Governance
